I have a great respect for C.J. Mahaney and his wife. They are genuine servants of God with a gift for communicating truth in a practical way to His saints. Now Mrs. Mahaney has joined with her daughters to write a book for mothers and daughters on biblical womanhood--and it is worth reading! Girl Talk: Conversations on Biblical Womanhood
When I got the book, I showed mom and we decided to go through it together. It had been ages since we'd read together, but sitting down with a book brought back fond memories from childhood days reading on a blanket in the yard such classics as "Daddy Long-Legs" and "Anne of Green Gables." So we began...the down-to-earth style made us laugh, and the Biblical principles fed our spirits.
We are not finished yet, but we are far enough along that I had to write my review. Moms, if you are looking for a good, fun, Biblically sound book to dig into the Word with your daughters, check Girl Talk out. I like the journaling and discussion questions in the back--even if you do not read the book aloud to each other, you can meet to discuss your thoughts on the chapters.
My mom and I have a fabulous relationship--I can tell her anything, and most of the time do. :) We're best friends, and I really did not begin this book with her because I felt our relationship needed work. Still, the chapters brought up areas we had not thought about before, and we definitely benefitted from the investment of time made together. I would love to see the Mahaney women come out with a book for older girls now--like, for girls in their twenties and up. For those preparing for marriage perhaps, or who are young wives and mothers. As I enter that season of life, I'm starting to look for resources and there are not as many as I'd hoped. Girl Talk did fill a need though. It is definitely staying on my shelf so I can someday use it with my daughter!
