Have you ever thought about why the dog is called "man's best friend"?
For 13 years we had a golden retriever named Ginger. She and Steve had a special bond, and she always liked him best. Ginger was loyal, didn't nag, and loved him no matter how much attention he paid to her on any given day. When she heard his car rounding the corner in the evening, Ginger jumped up from a dead slumber and began to run around in circles from mere excitement. When he opened the car door, she ran over to Steve, laid her head on his leg, and wagged her tail with all the force of a motorized metronome. Often, at the mere sight of Steve, Ginger rolled over on her back, beckoning him to rub her tummy. She always responded to his touch as though it were heaven on earth.
Okay, girls, are we getting the picture here?

What an adorable puppy! Is it your brother's?
Great quote!
LOL! Aww, what a cute doggie!
Is that a good book?? I've seen it and thought about buying it.
It was certainly a good point she made!
Thanks for posting!
It's amazing how much dogs can love us. They are so loyal to us and they really are good friends.
A great analogy. What often scares me is how easy it is for me to become comfortable with the blessings God gives to me, and their value deppreciates in my mind. One area that she did not address in this short paragraph (and probably somewhere else) is the idea of keeping up appearances. I do not ever want to become so familar with my husband that I forget to try and look nice for him. Afterall, you prayed long and hard for him, I want to keep him around for a long time and let him know how special he is everyday that I am married to him.
::laughing:: That's a great quote! I get the "picture" -- hmmm...I wonder what would happen if a wife showed such faithful devotion?? :o)

Rebecca, excellent point! I have a post on beauty that I'll share soon in which I address that.
Olivia, the book does have some good points, but I have some other favorites I plan to share soon. If you're looking for another book on marriage to read, yes, it's good. But if you're overwhelmed at all the books there are out there, I'll recommened my few favorites. :)
What a true (and sad) point. If women would only be as faithful as dogs. :-)

Great analogy! I think that many times we get so caught up in what we have to do, and so we think that it's okay to let a little thing slip by..."just this once". Soon, however, it becomes a habit.
I only want to read the really good ones, so I'll wait for your recommendations! :)
. . .very good!
I had never thought of that analogy. . .very convicting!
Yes, habits form SO easily. . .yet they are so hard to break!
Thank you for sharing!

Wow.....that's good. I'll have to remember that - not that I'm going to be married any time soon.......I'm only 15!
I'll relate a bit of a funny, but sad story about that kind of situation. My dad had a yellow lab, Niki, who was his constant companion in his post-college years. Niki went windsurfing with him, obeyed his every word, and was utterly devoted to her master. However, after my mom and dad were dating, she ran off - jealousy. She was unhappy with the time my dad was spending with his fiance and later, wife. Sad, isn't it? But it has life truths, too.
What a great analogy! Would you recommend this book to someone whose "prince charming" hasn't arrived yet? :-)
Anonymous, this book is geared more towards people who have been married a while, so even I am thinking, this chapter won't apply to me for years and years. I'm enjoying some of her analogies, but as I mentioned, I'd like to recommend some others to those who don't have a prince charming, and who are preparing for life with prince charming. Hopefully I'll get that post finished soon. :)
Can't wait to see the recommended list and read the upcoming post! Pardon the pun, but this blog gives one "something [important] to chew on" for future reference.
Just have to say it: such a cuddlesome puppy-looks like the kind they put in calendars (I once bought a pet calendar on clearance just to make posters out of the oh-so-cute pictures) :)
Hi Gretchin,
I thought I would check out this site before telling my daughter about it.... I must say I am impressed. I looks like life for you is taking a different direction for a while and that is wonderful. To both of you I pray the best of all God has to offer.
If at all possible Keep this site going. I know it will continue to be an encouragement to other followers of Christ.
Thanks to you and Natalie for having the vision to do what you have done here.
Blessing and Prayers,
Gideon
Great Job...looking forward to more!
