EDITOR'S NOTE

Hello! Welcome to the fall issue of New Attitude! The dot standing on the rock formation in the picture above is me.  Pretty cool, huh? It was taken by my buddy Brook a mile from the top of Pikes Peak. Climbing a 14,000 foot peak was just one of the crazy things I did while working at Summit Ministries in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The other crazy thing I did that month was putting together this issue of N.A. between washing dishes! (See “Where I’m At” for dishwashing details.) But somehow God blessed the work at the Summit, and we have what I believe is our best issue yet.

The thing that makes this issue so exciting is the fabulous team of contributing writers we have. Allow me to introduce you.

First, writing our cover story is Inge Cannon. Mrs. Cannon has a wealth of experience in education, and we’re proud to have her sharing her wisdom with us. Currently she’s working as the associate director of the National Center for Home Education, the branch of Home School Legal Defense that interacts with the press and alerts home-school leaders nationwide of legislative developments. While she’s not busy there, she and her husband, Dr. Cannon, run Education +Plus, the ministry which conducts training seminars for parents and teens. Her article on apprenticeship is based on one of these seminars.

Josh Carden is next on the list with a humorous look at siblings. Josh is an old buddy of mine and actually used to be my pen pal when we were little guys. Josh’s great sense of humor has been enjoyed by many in The Teaching Home, and I’m excited to have him at New Attitude.

Rachel Hildebrandt, an 18-year old from Texas, is taking a year off before college and decided to help out with N.A. She did a great job with the Profile section this issue.

Our last writer is not a new member of the New Attitude team, but he’s always appreciated. Brian Womack, our managing editor, has been an invaluable help in editing and informing me of all the rules of journalism that I so frequently break. This issue Brian contributes our first devotional.

Home-schooling teens are a very talented group of people with energy and loads of potential. This issue reflects that. This is home schooling - at its best.
