Not
An Animal or Toy

es I believe rescuing a human being is very right. I did my first rescue last month with seven other teens and a couple of adult missionaries. We blocked an abortion clinic for a whole hour and forty-five minutes (that’s a long time) until the police arrested us. I was nervous at first, but I prayed to God and He gave me a peace about it. When we were in jail, we sang songs to God. There’s a scripture in the Bible that really spoke to me and it’s in Proverbs 24:11, “Deliver those who are drawn to death. And hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.” Those little babies are being slaughtered each day and does God say not to rescue because it’s against the law? No! He says to deliver them. This is a human being! It’s not an animal or toy. We’re talking about saving a person’s life. So we have two choices: we can sit back and do nothing and let those innocent babies die just because we aren’t brave enough to stand up for what is right or we can listen to God and try to save them. It’s about time that Christians get out there and tell America what they believe.
You may not be called to rescue, but you can still picket or sidewalk counsel. Going to jail was worth it because we saved a five-month old baby. Praise the Lord! God always seems to reward you when you do something right.

A
Rescue is No Protest

n act of civil disobedience that comes about in a pro-life “rescue” is not an abortion protest. Picketers at a rescue are protesting, but the rescuers are actually attempting to close the clinics and prevent women from going through with the abortion. Distorted and biased media coverage has convinced the public that rescuers get arrested to make a
statement or protest the fact of abortion in general. The truth is that many women will not return to the clinics after being stopped once. While the rescuers are blocking the entrance, counselors offer the women information on alternatives to abortion and about the truth of what abortion does to their bodies and the child inside them. So a rescue is not a protest; it is an actual rescue of an individual unborn life.
Any government that supports the killing of unborn children is in opposition to the laws of God. Many people believe that the way to oppose the government’s abortion laws is to write letters, lobby, peacefully protest, and attempt to change the laws. While all of these are good and should be done, they take a great deal of time. And every day time runs out for five thousand more lives. Rescues focus on the children who don’t have time for the laws to change.
The Bible lists numerous examples of Christians who were forced to disobey their governments when they turned their backs on God. In Daniel 3:1-30 the three Hebrew children refused to bow to the idol they were commanded to worship. The book of Acts records the Apostles and Paul being arrested many times for their refusal to stop preaching when the authorities told them to. And Acts 5:29 says, “We ought to obey God rather than man.”
I believe that governments are established for our protection and we should obey them until they oppose the laws of God. Our government is taking part in the destruction of innocent lives and protecting those who do so. Therefore, I believe that we are justified in this form of civil disobedience.

i, I am a sixteen-year old home schooler and, yes, I believe rescuing is right. Non-violent civil disobedience is Biblical. Whose authority do we have to answer to, God’s or man’s?
A verse that really has stood out to me is James 4:17, “Therefore to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” God has called me to rescue the unborn children by blocking abortion clinics. I could either disobey God and not do it, but I would be sinning, or else I could follow the calling that I have received. I know that abortion is murder, and it is my duty, to God, to do my part.
The reason our young generation is having to take over the fight of abortion is because our parents’ generation sat in the pews while Roe vs. Wade was being battled. They did nothing; the church did nothing; and because of that abortion is legal. If enough people had stood up and protested Roe vs. Wade, I don’t think millions of babies would have died. It is our generation that has to take up the reins that our parents left.
But it is your choice. You can say, “I will let someone else deal with that issue.” or you can do your part. The more people that get out there and make a stand, the more difference it will make.
Edmund Burke said it best, “Evil triumphs when good men do nothing.”

Four Questions|
I |
would like to discuss four questions concerning rescuing: 1. Why do people rescue? 2. Is rescuing right according to scripture? 3. What is the purpose of a rescue? 4. Are rescues really accomplishing anything?
First, why do people rescue? Many people who have seen the horrors of abortion cannot stand idly by as innocent children are murdered. Proverbs 24:11,12 says, “Deliver those who are being taken away to death, and those who are staggering to slaughter, O hold them back. If you say, ‘See we did not know this,’ does He not consider who weighs the hearts? And does He not know it who keeps your soul? And will He not render to man according to his works?” We cannot be complacent as babies die by the thousands every day. Saving even one life is worth rescuing.
Second, is rescuing right according to the scripture? In Acts 5:29 Peter and the apostles tell the religious leaders, “We must obey God rather than man.” In the corrupt society in which we live, we cannot ignore injustice as men would like us to. We just obey God, take action, and “deliver” the unborn from death. Some rescue groups, unfortunately, use violence in their stand against abortion. If we are violent and hateful, we are only being like the pro-abortionists. Our motivation must be God’s love from a pure heart.
Third, what is the purpose of a rescue? A rescue is designed to give women more time to reconsider the life-changing decision they are about to make. A rescue does not only involve the rescuers themselves, but also prayer warriors and trained pro-life counselors who stand ready to give the mothers another choice rather than abortion. Rescuers also keep the fact that abortion is wrong before the public. If no one stood up against abortion, it would not be an issue. But the most important reason for rescuing is to save children from death. Lastly, are rescuers really accomplishing anything? The answer is definitely yes! There are countless testimonies of women who have changed their minds and spared their babies’ lives because rescuers were present.
Perhaps rescuing is not for everyone, but we can hardly deny the courage, faith, and selflessness of those who rescue. But more importantly, through those who rescue, a human being receives life. Aren’t you glad your parents did the same for you?

Adios!
It is with much sorrow and tears that we say “good-by” to the forum in new attitude. Our original goal for the forum was to provide readers with a chance for interaction with each other. We feel we can accomplish this better in another format. The forum is discontinued, but we’ll be introducing something new in an upcoming issue. Stay tuned!
