Welcome to New Attitude

You’re holding in your hands a magazine that links world changers. Welcome to New Attitude, the national magazine for Christian home-school teenagers. If you’re not a home schooler, don’t feel left out. You’re one of a growing number of people who are realizing that the topics New Attitude covers are not just for home schoolers. We want to challenge all Christian teens to reach their full potential for Jesus Christ. Part of that process is leaving behind the world’s way of looking at life and taking on a “new attitude”. We hope this issue challenges you to give every area of your life to the Lordship of Christ.

Billy Graham’s Global Mission

An explanation is in order for our contents page. I guess you could say it’s a tribute to one of my heroes, Billy Graham. In March of this year I was able to go to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and participate in the historic Global Mission. This outreach from the tiny island is the largest in the history of the church. The above picture is of Hiram Bithorn Stadium where the crusade was held. The gospel was translated into 116 languages and sent via satellite to 185 countries. The scope of the undertaking is still beyond my comprehension. Thanks to a New Attitude reader who was working with the sound for the crusade, I was able to tour the “Global Mission Village” which housed the audio and video equipment.

Each night at the Crusade I watched in rapt attention as Mt Graham would mount the platform and sit next to his “team” of Cliff Barrows, George Beverly Shea and T.W. Wilson. Here were men who had traveled the world over, who had worked side by side for fifty years, and now in the twilight of their lives were completing an outreach that dwarfed anything they’d ever done.

A Christian Workers’ Conference was held the week before the actual crusade. Men like Ravi Zacharias, Leighton Ford, Billy Kim and Luis Palau spoke on the different aspects of effective evangelization. For some time I’ve wanted to make our New Attitude conferences more evangelistic. Here my conviction was strengthened and my confidence bolstered.

I couldn’t help but feel insignificant in the middle of an event of this size, but at the same time I was encouraged by the living testimonies of what God can do through men and women who offer their lives to His service.

New Attitude Conferences

Many of our new readers may be unaware of the conferences that play an important part of New Attitude. These one-day conferences challenge young people to use their teen years to focus on spiritual and academic preparation.

The conferences continue to generate widespread enthusiasm and media attention. This spring we had two successful conferences in Atlanta, Georgia, and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In February the conference in Atlanta drew 1,700, our largest attendance ever. In Lancaster the church, which seated 1,300, was sold out a week before the conference. Nine people responded to rededicate their lives to Christ.

Currently we have two conferences scheduled for this fall. On September 23 we’ll visit San Antonio, Texas, and on November 4 we’ll travel to Sacramento, California. Please keep these events in your prayers.

Upcoming Courtship Series

Now I’m going to do something that I’ve never done: announce what’s coming next issue. It’s been two years since I wrote my first article on courtship, and the time has come for a follow-up. At this point I’m planning on making it a two or three part series. This will allow me to share some of things I’ve learned since then and give readers a sneak preview of the book that I’m writing. I don’t want to give too much away, but at this point I’m toying with the title “Courtship Problems...” for the first installment. Hmmmmm. See you then.
